National Council of Negro Women, Inc. San Diego Section
The San Diego Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) is a nonprofit, non-partisan voluntary membership organization. The mission is to advance opportunities and quality of life for mostly women of African-American descent, their families, associate members, affiliate members, and communities.
The San Diego Section was organized by Mrs. Hortense Reeves in 1960 and chartered by the City of San Diego in 1966. Since then, it has provided essential services to women, children, and families through various programs and projects. The Section offers mentoring and educational support to young people and shares important information with adults about issues impacting their lives and families. Drawing from 59 years of service, The Section remains a source of help, inspiration, and hope. Our work is ongoing, based on our founding principles: to lead, develop, and advocate for women, their families, and the community.
As the San Diego Section, we serve as one of the 330 campus and community-based sections of their National Organization (NCNW) that enlightens, inspires, and connects more than 2,000,000 women and men nationwide.
Through strategic partnerships, community services and personal development programs, the Section works towards its mission to promote education; encourage entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and economic stability; educate women about health and healthcare access, promote civic engagement and advocate for sound public policy and social justice.
The Section continues to build on its programs, develop new programs and activities to support women of African descent/heritage by developing a lifestyle that leads to success for themselves and their families.
The Section warmly welcomes all who have a willingness to serve others and are interested in serving the San Diego community.
